"In Europe, (the media has) been quite nasty about my private life and nosy and sometimes it hurts, but you learn to live with that."

Interviewed by Samuel Douhaire
1. What's the worst thing for a director?
Not to be able to express his/her own vision.
2. What's the last movie that you saw?
'Elephant', with lots of delay! I wanted to see all of Gus Van Sant's movies because I am going to play in his next one: 'Last Days', inspired by the last three days in Kurt Cobain's life.
3. Do you have a fetish?
A letter by Guillaume Apollinaire to a publishing house, that I bought at an auction. The text is very funny: he is courteous and yet, at the same time, we can see that he doesn't give a damn about them.
4. If you were a character?
Anna Karenina, but impersonated by Greta Garbo. Or Miss Europe, Louise Brook's character in 'Beauty Prize' by Augusto Genina (1930).
5. If you were a movie line?
How do you want me to answer? I don't know who I am.
6. If you were a movie?
'The Man With A Movie Camera' by Dziga Vertov. Because in 1925 everything was allowed, we could experiment everything, there weren't no written rules yet.
7. The last time you've been in Cannes...
It was two years ago, to make business: to find a producer and a distributor for 'The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things'.
8. Death in Venice, Berlin Express... Find a title with Cannes.
Dead in Cannes, but with a subtitle: "To be reborn".
9. If you meet Tarantino, what would you like him to say to you?
That he admits that he stole lots of shoots to my father (Dario Argento). In particular in 'Kill Bill Volume 2', where he literally copied 'Tenebre'.
10. Your last ideal shoot?
My feet. To end up with the story: it was also my very first shoot.
