"I hope I never lose the hunger to do something new, something that makes me grow - this is why I had to direct: I felt there was nothing else that I really wanted to accomplish through acting. And now, since I made my movie, I'm enjoying acting more. I've become a much more humble actress."

Les Misérables

In 2000, Asia also worked in the French TV series 'Les Misérables', an adaptation of Victor Hugo’s book with a great cast: John Malkovich, Gérard Depardieu, Christian Clavier, Virginie Ledoyen, Jeanne Moreau and Charlotte Gainsbourg to name just a few. Asia was fantastic as Éponine Thénardier!

When asked if she accepted a role in 'Les Misérables' because of money or because of the crew involved, Asia answered: "It’s true that money is an important factor for me from now on, because I want to concentrate my efforts on my own movies so I need some rest. For 'Les Misérables', I only had a few days of shooting, and the movie was entertaining to do: the costumes, important actors and especially the director. By the way, it’s what makes me decide to accept a movie, because I would never be able to work with someone who I don’t like, even if sometimes working reveals the true personality of people. Josée Dayan is one of the directors who I liked working with most during my career. She’s someone who knows how to use a camera, how to handle her movie, and she loves the actors and takes a true pleasure in telling ambitious stories. I know that people think that it’s a purely commercial thing, formatted for TV. Anyway, I don’t even have a television and I have never seen the series".

Director Josée Dayan said that Asia had the "wildness" required for the role of Éponine.

During the shooting of 'Les Misérables', Asia met Virginie Ledoyen (Cosette), who was Abel Ferrara’s first choice for the role of Sandii in 'New Rose Hotel'. Asia asked the French actress why she refused it, and Ledoyen answered that she was afraid of Ferrara, and that she only accepts roles that she knows she is capable of playing.
